Moving Your Business to the United Arab Emirates: Visa Routes for Founders and Investors

This guide covers the 2 verified routes for founders and investors moving a business to the United Arab Emirates. Every figure comes from our program review dated September 15, 2026. Rules change often, so treat this as a starting point and confirm the details with an expert before you commit money or time.

Golden Visa (Entrepreneur / Innovative Project)

The UAE's entrepreneur Golden Visa route is designed for founders building an innovative, technology-driven, or future-oriented business. If the project is still pre-launch but has been approved by a UAE-authorized incubator, accelerator, or innovation hub (such as Hub71 or in5), the minimum planned investment drops to AED 500,000. The visa runs for 5 years and is renewable, but the founder must remain actively and operationally involved โ€” passive equity ownership alone will not satisfy renewal criteria.

Who it suits: Founders with an innovative, technology-based, or future-oriented project, ideally with incubator backing. Minimum investment: AED 500,000 (incubator-endorsed innovative project route). Active involvement: Yes โ€” ongoing operational involvement required, especially at renewal. What you receive: 5-year renewable Golden Visa. Family: Yes. Path to permanent residence: Not applicable โ€” this is a long-term renewable residency, not a PR-to-citizenship pathway in the traditional sense.

Golden Visa (Business Owner / Category B)

This route is for owners or partners in a UAE company. You qualify by meeting any one of these tests: company capital of at least AED 2,000,000; a partner share worth at least AED 2,000,000; a deposit of at least AED 2,000,000 in a national bank or investment fund; or owning, or holding a share in, a company that pays at least AED 250,000 a year in federal tax. The invested capital must be fully yours and not borrowed, and you must show evidence. You also need health insurance for yourself and your family.

Who it suits: Owners of an established, licensed UAE company with a positive track record. Minimum investment: AED 2,000,000 (company capital, partner share or deposit), or AED 250,000 in federal tax paid each year. The capital must be wholly owned and not a loan. Active involvement: Yes โ€” nominal shareholding in a large company is explicitly insufficient. What you receive: 10-year Golden Visa (longer than the 5-year entrepreneur route). Family: Yes. Path to permanent residence: Not applicable โ€” long-term renewable residency, not a PR-to-citizenship track.
